Okazaki Biology Conference

The Okazaki Biology Conference (OBC) is sponsored by the National Institute for Basic Biology, Okazaki, Japan (NIBB). In 2004, NIBB started to sponsor a new conference series, similar to the Gordon Research Conferences. The purpose of this OBC is to develop an international network of leading scientists in specified fields of research such as "The Biology of Extinction". The mission statement, history and policy of OBC are summarized in the OBC website.

The first conference of the series, The Biology of Extinction, was held from January 25 to 31, 2004. Stuart Pimm and Yoh Iwasa organized this conference. In the first conference, it is scheduled to have a second conference on a related topic two years later, and Callum Roberts and Tetsukazu Yahara were nominated as organizers.
